Easter exodus marks biggest in recent years

In one of the largest Easter exoduses in recent years, thousands of residents from the Athens area have left the Greek capital, resulting in record-breaking travel numbers since the first unrestricted Easter

in 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Traffic authorities reported that from the morning of Holy Monday until 6 p.m. on Good Friday, a staggering 425,210 vehicles passed through the tolls heading towards Corinth and Lamia, marking a significant increase from previous years.

Specifically, from Holy Monday to the morning of Good Friday, 329,684 vehicles were recorded at the toll stations, surpassing last year’s count of 309,998 vehicles and the 2022 figure of 291,141 vehicles.

The outbound traffic continues from both Athens and Thessaloniki, with the last of the holidaymakers expected to depart tomorrow morning, Holy Saturday.
