European Council Summit: Mitsotakis Calls for Middle East Crisis to defuse

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has urged fellow European leaders to prevent the Middle East crisis from escalating into a regional conflict.

The call was made as the Greek leader arrived in Brussels for a meeting of the European Council Summit to address a string of foreign policy issues and the European

economy.

Mr. Mitsotakis expressed his deep concerns over recent developments in the Middle East in light of the latest attack on Israel. He called for a collective effort from the European Council to defuse tensions and avert the threat of a broader regional conflict.

His stance underscored the EU’s bid to foster stability and peace on the international stage.

In addition to the Middle East, the Prime Minister highlighted growing unrest in Lebanon and the impact it was having on pushing rising tides of refugees to Cyprus. Mr. Mitsotakis pledged support for the island’s efforts to manage the flows, emphasizing the need to also help stabilise the situation in Lebanon.

The summit also touched on relations between the EU and Turkey, with the Greek leader expressing optimism that fresh efforts by a United Nations envoy could yield results in long-standing efforts to re-unite the war-divided island of Cyprus.
