PM Mitsotakis' visit to Chios: Continuous investment in the Armed Forces a strategic imperative

Prime MinisterKyriakos Mitsotakis was briefed on the progress of infrastructuralprojects on the island of Chios, which he was visiting on Friday.

The projectsincluded the "Koris Gephyri" dam, the construction of theCourthouse, and the expansion of the local airport's runway andbuilding facilities.

He attended eventsfor the celebration of Saint George at the "Gialas" ArmyCamp and visited the Museum of Massacres at the Monastery of SaintMinas, as well as the Research Center of the Chios Mastiha

GrowersAssociation. The prime minister was accompanied by the Chief of theHellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis,and spoke with national guards serving on the island, where he wasalso briefed on the weaponry systems at the unit.

The PM stressed thatat these times of great geopolitical instability, the continuousinvestment in the Armed Forces "is a strategic choice which ourgovernment serves unwaveringly for the last five years." He alsoemphasized that "the Armed Forces ensure national sovereigntybut at the same time serve a very important role in peacetime,providing everything from healthcare services to the construction ofsmall infrastructure projects and from airlifts in cases of medicalemergencies to support in climate crisis conditions," addingthat the progress of the projects is monitored by his office.

Earlier, Mitsotakismet at the Municipality of Chios with the mayors of Chios, GiannisMalafis, Psara, Kostas Vratsanos, and Oinousses, George Daniil, whilealso visiting the offices of the North Aegean Region. They discussedissues of local interest and the significant reduction of irregularmigration flows in the eastern Aegean.
