Migration Policy Institute Europe (MPI Europe), established in Brussels in 2011, is a nonprofit, independent research institute that aims to provide a better understanding

of migration in Europe and thus promote effective policymaking. Building upon the experience and resources of the Migration Policy Institute, which operates internationally, MPI Europe provides authoritative research and practical policy design to governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders who seek more effective management of immigration.

MPI Europe seeks an exceptional thinker to carry out research, writing, and key project/program management as part of its Brussels team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to conceptualize and conduct comparative research as well as draw the relevant policy implications on key immigration issues for broad policy audiences. The candidate should also demonstrate strong analytical skills and knowledge about immigration and its role in the economy and labor markets, politics and legislation, national-regional-local relations, and foreign affairs. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications Required An exceptional candidate with experience equivalent to either: PhD and 2-3 years experience in a public policy setting, or MA with 4-5 years experience in a public policy setting (particularly in relevant social science, economic, or legal disciplines); Excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate clearly, with experience addressing complex public policy issues; Proven English writing and editing skills (finalists will be asked to complete a writing and/or editing exercise); In-depth understanding of current immigration trends, debates, and policies, including knowledge of European immigration systems and policies; government agencies and programs charged with implementing immigration policy; the economic, labor market, and socio-political dimensions of immigration and integration policy; and current immigration debates and policy proposals; research and writing experience in these areas a plus; Ability to think independently while also contributing to a team; developing effective working relationships with government officials, researchers, elected officials and staff, advocates, immigrant service providers, law enforcement/security professionals, and other experts. Preferred Publications record, especially in relevant policy fields, and standing in the research and public policy worlds; Ability to collaborate “remotely” with colleagues in different parts of the world; Bilingual or multilingual; Good communication and presentation skills; Experience working with the media.
