Greek, Russian Parliament heads meet

Both agreed on closer cooperation between the two parliaments, while Matviyenko asked Meimarakis to inform the executive power of the need to speed up the ratification of bilateral agreements that have already been signed, an issue Meimarakis said he had notified relevant ministers about.

Meimarakis briefed Matviyenko about the simplification of visa processing Greece had initiated for Russian nationals, and acknowledged that although Greece has traditionally had good relations with Russia, they can be further improved.

“Russia does not just feel Greece’s troubles, but is also willing to contribute to its efforts to exit the crisis,” Matviyenko said.

Meimarakis presented her with the golden medal of the Greek Parliament and she presented him with a certificate giving him significant privileges on his trips to Russia.
