Η Mitsubishi ανακοίνωσε πως εντόπισε το πρόβλημα που εμφάνισαν οι μπαταρίες των υβριδικών/ηλεκτρικών αυτοκίνητων της, που είχε οδηγήσει στη διακοπή της παραγωγής των Outlander PHEV και i-MiEV. Το πρόβλημα εντοπίστηκε σε ένα κελί της μπαταρίας η οποία προέρχεται από προμηθευτή της Mitsubishi. Το πρόβλημα συνέβη σε μια διαδικασία επιλογής που προστέθηκε στη γραμμή παραγωγής το Δεκέμβριο του 2012.

Διαπιστώθηκε ότι κατά τη διάρκεια της διαδικασίας

διαλογής, το σχήμα ενός εσωτερικού τμήματος του κυττάρου της μπαταρίας είχε αλλοιωθεί και κάποιες μικροσκοπικές προσμείξεις παρήχθησαν, πράγμα που είχε ως αποτέλεσμα η μπαταρία να εκτεθεί σε μεγάλες δυνάμεις. Η Mitsubishi αφαίρεσε αυτή τη διαδικασία επιλογής και πλέον ξαναξεκινά η παραγωγή των υβριδικών/ηλεκτρικών αυτοκίνητων της.

Mitsubishi Motors Announces Findings of Investigations into Drive Battery Issues in Outlander PHEV and Other Electric Vehicles

Tokyo, Japan Wednesday, April 24, 2013 – Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) announced findings of investigations into incidents involving lithium-ion batteries used in its Outlander PHEV, i-MiEV, and MINICAB-MiEV vehicles today. Joint investigations with the lithium-ion battery supplier had been implemented to find the root cause behind the incidents and a conclusion was reached. MMC is now moving forward with verifying appropriate prevention measures.

1. Conclusion of Findings

The joint investigation revealed that the battery cell defect originated from a part of the supplier’s manufacturing line, resulting in short-circuited battery cells. The defect occurred in a screening process that was added to the manufacturing line in December 2012. It was found that during this screening process the shape of an internal part of the battery cell was altered and some microscopic contaminants were generated as a result of battery cells being exposed to excessive force.

2. Removal of Screening Process

The screening process where the defect was occurring has been removed.
