Dep. FM: Greece has warned EU it cannot handle more Syrian refugees

Speaking to Public Television, Kourkoulas said Greece’s stance will not be influenced by Turkey’s stance, and noted that “Greece’s strategic interest is to stabilise the situation in Syria. A political solution is necessary.”

Speaking about the possibility of refugees, he referred to contacts Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos made with EU officials, adding that Greece has informed its European partners that it has very limited resources to handle war refugees. The numbers from Syria, with 100,000 victims and millions of refugees, constitute “the greatest humanitarian catastrophe of the 21st century,” the minister said, and called the loss of lives “a crime against humanity”.
