SUMMARY OF ROLE

Under the supervision of the Research Section and the relevant Project Managers, the Software Engineer will support and assist the work of EU-funded research projects in the field of Security, focusing on the development of software modules and applications.

The Software Engineer will also contribute to new EU-funded research and innovation proposals in respective fields based on his expertise.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES

You will be required to:

Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.Improve operations by conducting systems analysis; recommending changes in policies and procedures.Obtain and license software by obtaining required information from vendors; recommending purchases; testing and approving products.Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.Protect operations by keeping information confidential.Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.Accomplish engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree in a relevant disciplineAt least 1 year relevant experienceDetailed knowledge of architectural software design and methodsDetailed knowledge on Object Oriented Programming concept, tools and languagesDetailed knowledge on Web development applicationsProficiency level in the English languageHigh presentation and contacting skills

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Postgraduate studies (Master, or PhD) in a relevant disciplineKnowledge of the operating systems and application development environments to include programming languages and relational database systems that are currently used for modern information systemsSound Practical Experience with:

-modern software design methodologies, e.g. Object Oriented Analysis and Design;
-embedding third party commercial software components;
-relational databases management systems;
-non-procedural database query languages
-the use of tools for project management;
-the use of Configuration Control tools, UML based requirements engineering;

Proficiency in the use of programming languages (e.g C/C++, Java, PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript etc)Proven experience in EU or National funded research programs
